State of Ohio, Hamilton County.
In the matter of Pension Claim of Bernard Pichel;

On 9th day of February 1886, before the undersigned authority within and for said County and State, personally appeared Herman Hoit, who, being duly sworn, states on oath that he was 2nd Lieut Co. "D" 54 New York Vols at Hunter Chapell VA about fall of 1861 he became acquainted with Benard Pichel, on Mr. Pichels return from US Service about the Spring of 1864 he met him in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Pichel was suffering with rheumatism and throat trouble as bronchitis. In 1871, Mr. Pichel moved from Pittsburgh, Pa. and returned about 1877, Mr. Pichel returned to Pittsburgh and when affidavit met him, he was still suffering with above disability seemingly worse. Affidavit moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1877, in the fall of 1877 Mr. Pichel came to Cincinnati to reside and affidavit has known him well from his arrival here to date. During all the time of our acquaintance Mr. Pichel has suffered with rheumatism and bronchitis having frequent attacks of rheumatism. Once in wet weather his throat hurt him very much at not time since affidavit acquaintance with Mr. Pichel does he think Mr. Pichel ws able from either disability to perform hard or manual labor as any exposure would render him liable to have an attack of rheumatism while his throat trouble seems to grow worse.  Affidavit has been an intimate friend of Mr. Pichel and hence taken an interest in him - once in our frequent meeting talking the matter of his health over with him.

That he testifies from personal knowledge and has no interest in this Pension Claim.
